I picked up a rental car for a drive to a client this morning. It’s about 300 miles each way, so hoping for something comfortable and with Android Auto. Got a Nissan Altima SL. Pretty boring, but does have comfy seats. No Android Auto though, so will just use Google Maps on the phone.
I’m convinced the best way to know if a car will hold up long-term is to find one that has been used as a rental. This 2018 Nissan has 28k miles and feels like it is about to fall apart. I am assuming it has a CVT, if not then the trans is slipping so much it is about to die. Very Meh!

Wow, drink lots of coffee - I’m not sure it’s physically possible to stay awake for 300 miles in an Altima.

As someone who worked in the rental industry, I can assure you they felt like they were falling apart with 5 miles on them! Always leaked windshield washer fluid for some reason too. Seats are decent and they get good MPG’s if we wanna stay positive.

Could be worse, could be an eighth(!) gen Malibu or an ill-fated Chrysler 200 from the Dart platform.

On a work trip today. Booked a “ fullsize” Hertz which means midsize sedan. Dreading it could be an altima. Or it could be yet another Optima sonata or Camry. If I’m lucky i can pick up a Chrysler 300. Some airports have them.

I had a Malibu rental a few weeks ago and I actually liked it better than this Altima . Biggest problem was it was SLOW as hell, so much so that I thought something might be wrong with it.

I’m with you - I rent from Hertz. Funny how fullsize turns into a Versa sometimes. Which by the way, the Versa is the worst car I’ve rented. I actually prefer GM products as they have good infotech, easy to use, and generally seem to be good rentals.

I had both a Malibu and a 200, at different times, and the Malibu just pissed me off so much. The 200 should have been great, but the little things, the location of the gear selector-dial and those stupid humps in the bottoms of the backseat, made it suck.

I have the advantage of Gold so I can pick anything from the lot in the category but sometimes depending on the time and airport pickings can be slim. Last time I had to get into an Elantra . but just as I was starting it up the valet brought a freshly washed Camry right next to me. Never been happier to get into a camry lol

Gold is awesome! No hassles with the desk, you just go out and sit in a car :) I also got a Charger somehow the last time I rental one.

If someone could swap a VW DCT, a ZF 8 speed or a Torqueflite into the Malibu, then it would be perfect as a rental car.
